Sometimes i can be such an arrogant jerk. i think that things i accomplish are because of my great effort and ability. And i don't just have pride inside, i let it flow out into conversations as well.

"Thus says the Lord, 'Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches. But let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on the earth; for I delight in these things.'" [Jeremiah 9:23-24]

At least God is good at putting me in my place. Apologies to all who witnessed my excessive pride.

It is really hard to WANT to be on the bitter bus and to keep falling off. i know, the majority of you are saying "huh?" so I'll explain.

The bitter bus is a distinction for those whose mantra is "who needs a boyfriend?" [or girlfriend, if you are a guy]. Not wanting a relationship, you don't go out of your way to foster one. Contrary to the name, you can be on the bitter bus and not be bitter. The bitter bus stands in conflict with the secure bus. The secure bus mantra is "i am waiting for God to bring me the right guy." This sounds great, but it almost carries with it the weight of expectancy, which can be hard.

So, anyway, the deal is that I am on the bitter bus, but I have this nagging suspicion that someone likes me, which makes it hard to be a committed bitter bus rider.

just so you can sleep a little easier... despite the fact that I didn't go, enough girls showed up at our soccer game and the Dandy Lions triumphed 4-2. Our next playoff game is Sunday at 5:30. I won't have a paper to write, so I will be there to support my team :o)

I just decided to skip an intermural soccer game [co-ed comp division] to do schoolwork. We're in the playoffs. That's a huge deal for me. If the Dandy Lions have to forfeit... aaaaaaahhhhhhhh! I should do work early so I don't have to make these decisions!

I just spent an hour telling stories and discussing life with a friend instead of writing my paper. It was incredibly fun and worthwhile, but it is also one of those moments that the immortal words of Dr. Douglas Clapp roll around in my head, "Are you being a good steward of what God has called you to do right now or all you focusing on what you think is his call for the rest of your life? Are you using ministry as an excuse for poor schoolwork?" I mean, it seems like conversations and relationships ought to take precedence over silly things like papers... but not usually. Paul told Timothy we are called to do our work as to God, unashamed. Sheesh... I need to get writing!

Please, someone distract me. Save me from my misery. i am paper writing. Really, there is no fate more terrible. send me an email. kristen@email.unc.edu

Instead of blogging i ought to be writing a paper for my Judaic Civ class, which is actually my favorite class this semester, for the record. Except, the paper topic is to write about my impressions of Israel from this highly intellectual book, In the Land of Israel, by Amos Oz and compare these to the impressions i got from watching Shalom Sesame, a merging of the traditional Sesame Street and the Israeli version packaged for American Jewish kids. Yeah, like that's an easy comparison!
