i am growing up. the past few days i have tackled my first "home-improvement/decorating-type" project. Crazy! i hate the youth room of our church so i went to a scrap metal place and bought some old street signs, supervised painting... even went to the hardware store for supplies. i don't know what posessed me to take the project on, it has been hard, but worthwhile. some girly touches and more signs and the room should finally look like teenagers belong there!

YOU AREN'T READY TO DATE UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO HOLD OUT
[part three of an occasional series on silly Christianese relationship mantras]

i resurrected this series as i have been thinking about it a little lately. It has been a little while, so i am totally ready to date if the right person came along. The reality of it is, when i realized this was REALLY true, i got a little apprehensive. How will i know it is right? Dating is great fun. However, i never want to date someone because dating is great fun. Why, then, should i date? And who? Dating is one arena it is hard to trust God in, for me. But, this silly mantra is right. If i can't trust God and hold out for the right timing and the right guy and the right everything, i am not ready to be in the dating game. But if i can trust God and define my relationships with all by patience and truth and love i am ready to give dating a go. We shall see...

You know you are a poor intern when you park at a t-ball field far away from the drive-in and tune the audio in on the radio and squint to see a movie. yep. $15/week stipend baby.

We are not our own: let not our reason nor our will, therefore, sway our plans and deeds.
We are not our own: let us therefore not set it as our goal to seek what is expedient for us according to the flesh.
We are not our own: in so far as we can, let us therefore forget ourselves and all that is ours.
Conversely, we are God's: let us therefore live for him and die for him.
We are God's: let his wisdom and will therefore rule all our actions.
We are God's: let all the parts of our life accordingly strive toward him as our only lawful goal.
O, how much has that man profited who, having been taught that he is not his own, has taken away dominion and rule from his own reason that he may yield it to God!

-JOHN CALVIN [quoted by Pastor Bruce Greenough, First Presbyterian Church]

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Karin she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

There ain't no doubt in no ones mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

With a holy host of others standing 'round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

i really love being a youth intern. Hanging out with girls, studying scripture, planning talks, those are all things i love. However, doing contact work is hard. Calling kids i don't know, inviting them to things... really grueling. Pray for me. The faster i form relationships, the easier this'll get.

The guy interns tease me because once i called chapel hill "the happiest place on earth". comments? email me.

i suddenly feel old. Inching closer to leaving my teens, perhaps. The other interns call me "mom" sometimes because i knit and cook. The other day i met a guy and thought "he is really cute and nice" and then saw his wedding band. I have found married guys attractive before, but never been really attracted to one. Weirdness.

Come ye sinners, poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore.
Jesus, ready, stands to save you, Full of pity joined with power.
He is able, He is able; He is willing; Doubt no more.

Come ye needy, come and welcome; God’s free bounty glorify:
True belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh.
Without money, without money, Come to Jesus Christ and buy.

Come ye weary, heavy laden, Bruised and broken by the fall.
If you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all.
Not the righteous, not the righteous; Sinners Jesus came to call.

Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream.
All the fitness He requireth is to feel your need of Him.
This He gives you, this He gives you, ’Tis the Spirit’s rising beam.

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended; pleads the merit of His blood.
Venture on Him; venture wholly, Let no other trust intrude.
None but Jesus, none but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good.

words by Joseph Hart

we sang this hymn this morning in church. it is a good one, though i prefer the indelible grace version... more stanzas and a cool upbeat tune... if only all of the church could get into setting the words of hymns to more comtemporary worship styles...

i finally got around to checking my stats today. it is amazing the people that surf into my blog... from Malyasia, France, Madagascar, Germany, Japan, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia and the United Kingdom. However, it is a reflection on my blog that they rarely come back :o) if only my life were more scandalous!

My walk to church/work each morning is amazing. i walk straight towards the beautiful snow-capped peaks to the South [where Telluride is] and i just can't get used to the Colorado skyline. So, after devos and doing some morning busy work making fliers and stuff, i came home for lunch and my host sisters asked if i wanted to hang out. So, we went tubing down the Uncampaghre River today. Totally on a whim. i had never been river tubing and it was SO fun. i am going to take kids all summer. And i get a van from a member of the congregation tomorrow to use for the summer, which will be fun. Anyway, i am off to go entertain the other interns for movie night part III.

i just got back from my intern retreat... it snowed in Colorado today! it was 95 over the weekend! The other interns are really neat and i am really excited about spending the summer with them. i am still a little lonely though... i mean, it is weird to not have people to call and visit all the time. email helps though.

i am in Colorado! Sorry i haven't posted lately, i am a slacker and i wasn't diligent enough to keep trying to blog about the fascinating subjects of my new Harry Potter obsession, packing and my frustration with boys. So, anyway, i had never flown before today. It was so awesome! i flew from Raleigh to Chicago [O'Hare] to Denver to Montrose. i had window seats the whole way and i got bumped on the Chicago to Denver leg up to business class which was very very nice. Seeing America from the sky was quite an experience. First the fog in the green mountain valleys coming over the Appalachian Mountains and foothills, then how Iowa and Nebraska and Eastern Colorado look like a gigantic patchwork quilt of brown and tan and green rectangles and circles of all sizes and finally flying over the Rockies, the most mountainous mountains i have ever seen. Just like the postcards! Montrose is pretty flat, but surrounded on all sides by the most gorgeous mountains ever. i am really excited to be able to go play in them. And the family i am staying with is really really cool. Can you tell i am excited?

Sorry i have been slack about posting. i went to a really cool wedding this weekend, in Banner Elk. It was really cool mostly because it really suited the bride and groom, Brian and Tiffany Loomis. The reception was outside with great food and dancing. i love dancing at weddings. It was really great to see some of my friends before i head west. i am excited and nervous, Saturday is not that far away! i should start packing up my school stuff at least, since i have to pack both for the summer and the fall. in other news... i got an L parking permit! For the bargain price of $254 i can park outside my very dorm, on the Morrison Circle. That is quite a feat at UNC. Parking is the bane of many a student's existence. Now i will be insured to be able to make it to the grocery store, church and awakeningRecords whenever my Volvo decides to run smoothly.
